I have a question. I am a new candle maker and my candle containers are getting soit so much the glass which is clear looks black. What am I doing wrong?

I use IGI 4625 a lot. Get two towels bigger in size than the slab. Go out on your garage floor or driveway. Lay one towel down and place the slab on top. Place the other towel on top of the slab. Take your average household hammer and smash down. The slab will break into smaller pieces. The towels will keep the wax from flying all over the place. Keep hammering if you need smaller pieces.

Or… take the broken pieces, place them on your work bench, get an ice pick or similar tool and and push down through the wax starting around the edges. Make sure you have some sort of tape to repair the holes in the original packaging.

If you think you might only need 1/4 or 1/2 of the slab then just pound on that area. The hammer method is also a good way to vent some anger. It’s quite fun actually.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dawn. That’s a timeless strategy, and it gets the job done. (People have even said that it can be great therapy for venting frustrations.)

Another method is to chill the slabs in a freezer for about 15-20 minutes. This will make the wax brittle. Then, place a chilled slab into a box, at a slight angle, and deliver a few sharp blows with a hammer. That should shatter it into smaller pieces. The purpose of the box is to contain the many fragments, so choose one large enough to contain the slab.

I have tried MANY methods (electric knife, heated knife and a band saw) but the easiest way to do it is to put it in a bigger plastic bag and drop it on the ground. Sounds silly… but it works!! My basement floor is cement so it works perfectly!

I bought the IGI 4630 & IGI 4625 to make tarts. They came in 10lb blocks. The 4630 was soft and easy to cut into 1/2 lb sections, but I had a hard time with the 4625. Any suggestions on easier ways to cut the block of wax?
